January, 2006 - SAGAS is honored to organize the stroke session during the 14th Saudi Annual Neuroscience Symposium in March 14, 2006. There will be international and local presentation, as well as a special interactive session on thrombolysis....Click here for more....

January, 2006 - SAGAS is working on validating international cognitive tests to be applicable locally . These include the mini-mental state examination (MMSE) and the Cognistat. Dr Al-Ghatani, neuropsychologist and SAGAS member, started this validation along with distinguished psychology colleagues from different hospitals. They are cooperating together to Arabize tests then apply them on normal people, for validation.

June 23, 2005 - The 4th Saudi Stroke Awareness Day was a great success to SAGAS. More than 200 physicians attended the scientific sessions and respected number of people and patients attended the public session. The meting was conducted under the patron of his Excellency the Minster of Health, Dr. Hamad Al-Manee, who was represented by Dr. Yaqub Al-Mazroa. Click here for more....

May, 2005 - SAGAS chair, Dr Khoja, attended the 5th administrative meeting of the World Stroke Federation in Bologne, Italy. This meeting was held along the European Stroke Conference. Dr. Khoja represented the WSF latest update on the WSF website, which SAGAS is developing, and all the members expressed their satisfaction with what has been achieved. April, 2005 - The Saudi Advisory Group Against Stroke was invited to attend a luncheon by the World Stroke Federation at the 57th American Academy of Neurology meeting held April 2005 in Miami, Florida. The meting was addressed by  Professor Antonio Culebras, President of the federation and was attended by number of WSF founding member organization representative, including SAGAS. December 23, 2004  - The Saudi Advisory Group Against Stroke and the Bangladesh Medical Association conducted a joint scientific symposium. The event took place in Marriot Hotel, Riyadh on Thursday, December 23, 204. The event was conducted under the auspices of Prof. Hussain Al-Freihi and the Bangladesh Ambassador to Saudi Arabia. Around 150 Bangladesh physicians, working in Saudi Arabia, attended this activity.. .for details, click here

December, 2004  - The group, in association with King Fahd Hospital in Al-Baha, has conducted a scientific stroke symposium. The activity was for 2 days and was attended by large number of physicians. Dr. Saeed Al-Ghamdi, Dr. Fahmi Al-Senani and Dr. Mahir Al-Jadid (SAGAS members) presented different lectures on stroke. The group would like to thank the organizers of this meeting for their warm welcome and excellent conduct of the meeting.

November 23, 2004  - The group in association with the Radiological Society of Saudi Arabia (RSSA) and Boston Scientific, has conducted the Campaign Against Stroke, which was held on Tuesday 23rd November, 2004 at 8:00—12:00 pm, in Westine Hotel — Jeddah. September 17  - The The group conducted its 10th meeting, where a warm welcome was given to Dr. Fahmi Al-Senani and Dr. Mahir Al-Jadid as the 2 new members of SAGAS. See their biography in the members page. A number of topics had been discussed in this meeting.

September 2004 - Dr Waleed Khoja has been nominated to be a member of the board of directors-in large working for the World Stroke Federation.

June 2004 - The International Stroke Society and the organizers of the 5th World Stroke Congress had announced that June 24 is the International Stroke Day.

June 2004 - SAGAS was part of the World Stroke Federation meetings as board of incorporators member during the 5th World Congress held in Vancouver, June 2004. Based on this interaction, SAGAS is now a founding and constant member of the Federation.

The group would like to congratulate Professor Mansour Al-Nozha, President of the Saudi Heart Association for his new appointment as Dean of Taibah University in Al-Madinah..

The group has been invited to participate in an international strategic meeting for stroke prevention during the 5th World Stroke Congress, in June 2004, Vancouver, Canada. Also, the group will attend the preparatory meetings for the proposed World Stroke Federation during the same period.

The group conducted its fifth lecture tour session in King Abdulaziz Specialist Hospital, Taif, on the morning of Thursday, June 3, 2004. See details in this page..

Dr Waleed Khoja, representing Saudi Arabia and SAGAS has been nominated to be member of the board of incorporators - World Stroke Federation (WSF) during the meeting conducted recently in San Diego. This occurred during the activity of the 29th International  Stroke Conference held on February 5-7, 2004. SAGAS would like to welcome its new members, Dr Saeed Al Ghamdi, a neurologist from Al Baha and Dr. Mohammed Habbab, a senior cardiologist from Prince Sultan Cardiac Center, Riyadh.  

SAGAS was involved with the department of neurology in RKH in organizing and conducting the Second Saudi Transcranial Doppler Workshop held under the auspices of the 12th Annual Saudi Neuroscience Symposium. Once again, the SAGAS foot ball team (composed of Medical Engineering Department staff, Neurologists and Neurophysiologists) took part in the Riyadh Armed Forces Hospital Football tournament this year.....See the details

On Saturday 21 June 2003, the group made a visit to the office of his Excellency, Dr. Hamad Al-Mane, the newly appointed minister of health. The group members conveyed their congratulations to his Excellency and pointed out the objectives of the group on local stroke issues and made him aware of the plans. Publications of the group were also handled to him. His Excellency was very interested in the group work and particularly stressed on primary and secondary protective measures. He was more than kind when he showed a great understanding towards the group objectives and difficulties. We, in SAGAS, appreciate his Excellency's support. The group conducted its third lecture tour session in King Fahd Hospital,-Hafouf on the morning of Monday, May 19, 2003. The session was attended by large number of physicians and care giver. The group conducted its second lecture tour session in Makkah on the night of Sunday, April 20, 2003. The session was organized in collaboration with the Family Medicine Society, Makkah Office. Dr Sameer Sabban, Consultant Family Medicine and President of the Society Office was the chairman of the session. The group is very thankful to Dr Sabban for his excellent organization and hospitality.

The group launched its lecture tour, which has called it "The National Educational Program" on April 7, 2003. The first tour took place in Riyadh Medical Complex. A 2 hour program was carried out, where lectures on different aspects of stroke were given by the group members. The group would like to extend its gratitude to Dr Farraj Al-Shubaili, the medical director of the general hospital in Riyadh Medical Complex and Dr.Khalid Al-Raddadi, the head of medical supply in the complex, for their nice reception and support for this event to take place.

Dr Adnan Awada, the secretary general of the group and distinguished consultant neurologist in National Guard Hospital, had left to Lebanon on February, 2003 for one year. We are going to miss his great contribution to neurology in the Kingdom in general, and in the group particularly. Click here to see his profile.

His Excellency, the Minister of Health, Professor Osama Bin Abdulmajeed Shobokshi,  honored SAGAS when kindly sponsored the inauguration of the website on Tuesday, 21 January, 2003. The ceremony was held in SAS Hotel (formally known as Hayat Regency) and was attended by distinguished health authorities from all medical sectors in Riyadh. SAGAS will organize a nation wide tour in the coming few months. This tour will be educational on different aspects of stroke issues. Once the the calendar of the tour is released, it will be put on the site...Don't forget to visit back to know more.

SAGAS had a successful meeting in Riyadh, 1st of November 2002. The meeting agenda was full and various topics were discussed. Number of decisions were made at the meeting.

SAGAS has organized a scientific meeting on Tuesday 29 October, 2002. Dr. M. Anwar Etrebi, a professor of Neurology and chairman of Neurology Department in Ain Shams University Hospital in Cairo, was the guest speaker in this meeting. Dr. Etrebi presented his experience regarding interventional therapy for stroke from neurology perspectives. Also, the future of Pan-Arab Union of Neurological Societies (PAUNS) was presented by Dr. Aldeeb, who is the current president of PAUNS. Click here for the program.

His Excellency, the Minister of Health, Professor Osamah Bin Abdulmajeed Shobokshi received members of the group in his office on Tuesday 13 August, 2002. The members summarized the objectives and work plans of the group to his Excellency. He was very supportive and gave priceless advise and directions to the members. At the end of the meeting, members expressed their great thanks and gratitude for the time he gave and the support he showed to the group members. SAGAS has actively participated in the first Saudi Transcranial Doppler Workshop, which took place in Riyadh military hospital on September 9, 2002. Click here to get more information.

SAGAS participated in the International Stroke Society organizational meeting (ISS) held in Geneva, 30 May, 2002. During this meeting, the group received recognition by the ISS, which means a further potential for the group to be more promoted and will collaborate with the international stroke community. Also, the group is sharing in the plans for the creation of a World Stroke Federation.

The Saudi Advisory Group Against Stroke (SAGAS), has conducted a satellite symposium during the 11th Saudi Neuroscience Symposium. The Satellite symposium took place at the Meridian Hotel, Jeddah on the night of Tuesday 5 March 2002. The theme of topics were directed towards different issues on stroke.

The Group appeared on Saudi TV, over a series of 4 episodes during the months of January and February. In these episodes, SAGAS was introduced and all aspects of Stroke issues in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia were discussed. We would like to extend our greatest gratitude to Dr Taher Sabbagh for hosting the Group on his successful program.

The announcement and official launch of the Saudi Advisory Group Against Stroke (SAGAS), in affiliation with the Saudi Heart Association, took place during the Annual meeting for the Saudi Heart Association held in Intercontinental Hotel, Riyadh, from 21 to 24 January, 2002.

The use of perindopril with indepemide is effective in reducing stroke recurrence, regardless primary stroke is ischemic or hemorrhagic and weather patient is hypertensive or not.
